Interview in the Oriental Sun 太陽報 (20060604)
I apologise. The interview was published before I became aware of it and had no time to tell everyone. Yet again, the interview was more about my blog and camera life than about our family of dogs and rabbits which is good, because variety is a good thing.
Luckily, the interview is available online. It's in two parts at: 河國榮為 Blog 瘋狂 and 河國榮部落格有歌聽.

Unfortunately my blog had been temperatory block in China.(Afterwards, my friend had told me it cannot pass the web-filter called GFW in China if someone's blog have any wordings of 4 or 6 )
It is crazy, isnt it?

Mr Ho,
Yep, I came across this newspaper interview that's why I am aware of this blog, which has become one of my fave blogs to visit every other day. I have linked to this blog of yours on my pchome blog too. Hope you don't mind.
I am amazed at your patience and effort put to build this blog and the solid base of readers. I wish I could build a blog half as successful as yours.

Hi, Greg. I just read your Oriental Sun interview. Yes, you are one of the rare ones who actually takes the time to return letters/email messages. I believe you have made may fans/readers very happy.
The reason I love reading your blog is because you are what the Chinese would say "very real". You don't boast. You don't exaggerate. You don't take credit when it's not yours. You don't try to hide things. You don't put on a fake face. You say things as they are. And that is why I keep on coming back. :)

Mr Rivers,
Been very impressed with your actings and the use of Cantonese in hk dramas. Frankly speaking. Cantonese, in certain aspects, a dialect which is quite diffcult to master. After reading the Oriental Sun articles, I had knew better of your attempts to learn and use the dialect well. Really impressed! Keep up the good work! 40s is still a start of a life, one can even learns when he is 79~ :)
The mindset matters, yes no?

Hey Greg! How's life trating ya? I've been so busy with my workshops and catching up with WorldCup. What about you? The Aussi team is playing today and are you gonna watch them?
Nice voice btw, I didn't realised you've got a song uploaded to the blog until I have read the Sun's. This kinda song really suits your tone.
Btw it's boiling here in Central England (Nottingham). This is really worrying especially when I am here exposed to a temperature of around 26-28 degrees in the UK! It's nice in a way but this kinda weather shouldn't really last for more than two weeks in a place like this. It says a lot about Global warming... *sigh* we've been on and on about this but nothing is really taking place....

Hi, Greg, 看了你的訪問, 照片都很生活化, 很有親切感.
最近我看了 "隨時候命" 有關GFS的. 看到你在直昇機上的英姿! 因為我還在英國, 所以看到的劇集都比香港慢.

'wongwongwong',
you should be able to subscribe via the small grey 'Bloglet' box at the bottom of the side column. enter your email address and it should tell you every time I post a new article.
the bloglet server wasn't working for a while. I think it was a problem with my rss files but that should be ok now (hopefully).
Perle,
the problem in China is that there are so many people, and a very large portion of them are being abused or used by the small elite portion. if violence erupted, it would be a very bad thing. China's only choice is to cap everything that would negatively impact the people's trust in their government and their country.
hopefully, China will gradually over time weed out the corruption and abuse, allowing all Chinese to have equal access to opportunities for improvement.
Angelina,
I don't mind ;-)
'patience and effort' — I wish I worked harder. I have ideas for this blog but they will require some serious effort and dedication to implement. I'm not usually good at that. we'll see.
MY,
I still have 300+ email messages to reply to!!! every time I see the number, I slouch away and find something else to do.
mmm... I boast all the time. just ask my wife ;-)
the rest of it would probably be fairly true, although I'm prone to exaggerate a little when it comes to the Hong Kong government and corruption, or the eternal battle of good vrs evil.
but thank you for coming back.
Tonia,
I'm working on one (I assume you're referring to my Chinese articles?) right now. I've begun a new routine to try and get some regularity into my life. part of that routine involves sitting down at Starbucks three times a week (even though I much prefer my own home-made coffee) and working on my Chinese articles. you should see the fruit of this new routine within the next couple of weeks.
Wesley,
mindset does indeed matter.
Cantonese is very difficult, but I gather that Japanese is also incredibly complex.
Harryn,
"女孩子怎能靠拍照為職業?"
women can be professional photographers. there's nothing that makes men better than women or vice versa. if you have an interest in it, you should at least experiment with it and see where it takes you.
"更何況我現在讀的和攝影完全 no related."
mmm... I studied three years of medicine at the University of New South Wales before changing my mind and deciding to pursue pop singing in Hong Kong (a crazy thought indeed). I'm now acting for TV, sometimes for movies; becoming a better photographer with every excursion; writing Chinese and English articles for a newspaper and my blog, and still practising to become a better singer. who'd have imagined that I'd be doing all of this? and totally UNRELATED to medicine!!
I don't think it matters what you study. it only matters what you determine to do, and remember that it's ok to change your mind, any time, any where.
Vince,
mmm... soccer/football... no interest. it's become one of those super peer pressure things and I don't like peer pressure. if I like it, I like it. if I don't like it, I won't 'like' it just for the sake of others that like it. there are lots of interesting things out there other than football, although I enjoyed playing it in school.
'nice voice' — thank you.
it's getting very warm over here too, at least when it's not raining (I think England left a few reminders of it with us when it returned Hong Kong to China; the rain for one ;-)
Julia,
yes. it's just a shame that the rest of my family was too busy to read or contribute to it. but it lead to this one and that's how it became important in my timeline.
Paul,
no. I'm perfectly at home here. being able to comprehend and speak the language is obviously a big factor. the fact that 80% of the population knows me is also a big factor because I feel at home no matter where I go.
the fact is, if you speak the local language, you'll get treated very well by the locals.
Ben,
Tai Po is a nice place to live, although a little far from TVB.
we had a great time living out there though. those were happy days indeed.
Eileen,
I enjoyed filming 隨時候命 very much but didn't actually get to see it when it was released here in Hong Kong (I wish we had TiVo). I hope you enjoy watching it.
take care all,
Ho Kwok Wing
