Diggin' it!

What does a Hong Kong actor do when he's on break with his family in Australia? He helps his dad dig post holes :-)

Good timing, you're back here when the weather is starting to get lovely!

Whereabouts in Australia are you?

Gympie in Queensland. Have you heard of it? It started out as a gold mining town many many years ago.

Well I've heard of it now ;) I'm in Sydney and have only gone up to QLD a few times. About 15 years ago we drove up from Sydney to Cairns - we stopped at Brisbane, Rockhampton, Mackay and Townsville, and a quick peek at the map tells me that I would have passed Gympie on the way up.

I agree with a poster down below that said it looks a little like what you'd see around Katoomba, but yes, not exactly t-shirt and shorts weather there just yet! It's not long now until everyone feels like they're melting...

:-)

Looks that way, doesn't it?

That 'stick' I'm holding is a solid steel crowbar. I loosen the dirt and Dad shovels it out. The holes are about 30" deep and about 12" in diameter. We stand hard wood posts in them. I'd forgotten how heavy the hard wood in Australia is until I had to lift one of the posts into its hole. My grandfather and father built miles and miles of fences this way when they owned a huge pineapple plantation here in Gympie many years ago.

Cheers.

It seems it's much warmer in QLD. If you didn't say it was in Gympie, I would have no idea. I first thought it might be Katoomba but then you both could not be in shorts if you were there.

Wow. Someone knows a lot about us, and about Australia.

The Blue Mountains are wonderful, but they would be very cold right now, so yes, we wouldn't be wearing shorts in Katoomba, but we wouldn't be digging post holes either :-)

Hi, I think you're cool. I'm wondering however why you became an actor when you studied Medicine (according to Wikipedia). Then again I'm studying law (almost a solicitor) and I want to be an actor/screenwriter/producer in England (and I'm Chinese-Australian...go figure) so each to their own I suppose.

Jia, being able to change is an important part of living. We experience, we learn, we change. It was while I was at uni studying medicine that I encountered Hong Kong people and culture. If I hadn't attended uni, I wouldn't have become an actor in Hong Kong. Strange but true.

Don't be afraid to do the things that you really want to do even if you might fail. You never know where they'll lead you.

Great to be spending time with your family. Nice pictures! Is Queensland suitable for a backpacking adventure?

nice to see you again

Hi Greg, It is so nice to see you again and it is particularly nice to read your blog again. How are you and all your dogs? Oh. You look great and younger than ever. How sweet it is to see you and your dad worked together in the yard but looked like he was the one doing all the works and you were just there conducting. Just joke. LOL. Are you in HK now? Good on you mate and stay there for a bit because it is flu season here. I have used up more than '6 boxes' of tisseu due to seasonal allergy. No joke. See you soon and keep well. Oh, you look really nice in vibrant colour. :)
